Leica is releasing the "Leica D-LUX 7 “A BATHING APE® x STASH”," a collaboration between fashion brand BAPE® and American graffiti artist STASH.

This special limited edition model features the fashion brand A BATHING APE®'s (BAPE®) signature "ABC CAMO" pattern on its exterior, as well as the brand's iconic "APE HEAD" motif and the wild style tag symbolizing American graffiti artist STASH. It comes in two color variations, black and silver, with the black being exclusive to Leica and the silver being exclusive to "A BATHING APE®".

"A BATHING APE®" is a fashion brand from Tokyo. It incorporates the energetic spirit of the times into contemporary designs and promotes Tokyo street fashion style to the world.
Graffiti artist STASH (real name Josh Franklin) is based in Brooklyn, New York. He is a pioneer and legend in the graffiti world. He elevated anonymous graffiti in subway tunnels to widely recognized works, laying the foundation for graffiti as a new art genre.

And Wetzlar, Germany, is a symbol of the pinnacle of optical technology and camera product design. The creative energies of Tokyo and New York merged in Wetzlar to create a unique, limited edition compact digital camera.
Photography has always been a means of documentation in the worlds of street art and street fashion. The newly released "A BATHING APE" x STASH Leica D-LUX 7 camera embodies the relationship between street photography, street fashion, and street art.

Looking back on his past, STASH acknowledges the many similarities between graffiti, photography, and fashion.

In designing this special limited edition model, STASH combined his own iconic visual approach with the style of "A BATHING APE®," known for its extensive use of graphic elements.

About A BATHING APE®
STASH Profile
Real name: Josh Franklin. As one of the pioneers of New York's graffiti scene, he has established himself as an innovator and influencer in the field of urban design. His approach of incorporating the graphical elements and fonts of graffiti into product design has garnered widespread attention, helping to evolve graffiti culture from a shady past as a form of subway tunnel painting to a more publicly recognized form of art. His messages and iconic signatures, hidden within his graffiti ("stashed away"), have evolved into a brand in themselves. Collaborations with major brands in the street fashion world have further garnered him attention and established him as a firm favorite. A known avid photographer, he discovered Leica as the perfect tool for his pursuit of new forms of expression. This latest collaboration marks another milestone in his work embodying the concept of capturing the passing of time.

The photographic expression of street photography
Street photography is a form of photography that attempts to portray people's daily lives as naturally and intimately as possible. Leica cameras are often used in the genre of reportage, which captures scenes that are very familiar to the eye, suggesting that this genre of photography has a deep connection to Leica. Street photography has long served as a mirror that reflects society in a variety of ways, from humorous to profound and incisive, and sometimes critical. In that sense, like street fashion and street art, it can be said to be a form of art that reflects the spirit of the times that breathes in cities.

"When I started making graffiti in the early 1980s, the term 'street art' didn't even exist. Later, I expanded my activities from subway tunnels and train stations, and it finally began to gain recognition. Documenting my work with photography was also part of my creativity. The advent of digital cameras led me to buy my first Leica."
Looking back on his past, STASH acknowledges the many similarities between graffiti, photography, and fashion.
"They share the same color-based visual expression and high degree of freedom. They're also both driven by the younger generation. Their creative elements are deeply intertwined, and it feels like the story of one genre is completed through the influence of the other two."
