Artist MU/Yamamoto Megumu will be holding a solo exhibition, "Drawing with Thread," at nostos books.

MU, who sews icons that reflect the times, presents her works using a variety of techniques and materials, including textiles, embroidery, illustrations, and three-dimensional sculptures. To date, she has mainly exhibited in Nagoya.

This time, she will be presenting new works from her embroidery series, which are sewn freely as if drawn with a pencil. Her motifs are icons that reflect the times, such as Marilyn Monroe, Andy Warhol and his works, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Keith Haring, and Twiggy.

By depicting these icons of the times that everyone has seen countless times, she has recreated them in a new way. In addition to portraits, the artist will also present several other motifs that are interesting to express through embroidery.


Approximately 100 art pieces will be on display, embroidered on small scraps of fabric, arranged like Campbell's cans. The artist deliberately avoids reproduction and instead attempts mass production.

All of the pieces will be lined up on the wall, like Warhol's Campbell's cans, and visitors can take home whatever they like. They can frame them or sew them onto their favorite bag or clothing. Icons that have been reproduced and consumed for decades will be reborn as one-of-a-kind pieces. Other items available for sale include tote bags and sweatshirts. Each piece is unique, and no two are alike. Enjoy the expressions woven by each thread.

MU will be in the gallery for four days, March 3rd, 4th, 17th, and 18th, to hold an "embroidery demonstration" event where you can have the same design as the art piece embroidered onto anything you bring with you. Only items that can be sewn on, such as T-shirts, cut and sewn items, and thin tote bags, can be embroidered. The times are from 13:00, 14:00, 15:00, 16:00, and 17:00 each day (one person per session). Each piece, approximately 10cm square, costs 3,000 yen, and reservations are required.
