In our Thursday series, each branch of the art bookshop NADiff recommends a book they think you should read right now. This week, we feature "ENDANGERED: Endangered Creatures" by Tim Flach, who has photographed endangered wild animals from around the world. This book is recommended by our Shibuya branch, NADiff modern (Bunkamura, 1F, 2-24-1 Dogenzaka, Shibuya-ku, Tokyo).

■ "ENDANGERED: Endangered Creatures" by Tim Flach
Tim Flach has photographed endangered wild animals from around the world.
This is his latest photobook, his first in Japan. This book is Tim Flak's experiment in exploring how humans empathize with other living things through visual images. By following animal photographs alongside stories about their habitats, readers can learn about the environment in which each species currently lives. The portrait-like images of the animals are almost like paintings, and their gazes staring directly at us seem to be confronting us. The various emotions that arise as you read will give you an opportunity to consider the relationship between nature, animals, and humans.

In addition, Bunkamura The Museum is holding the "The Amazing World of Rudolf II" exhibition until March 11th. Rudolf II was an avid collector and owned a zoo filled with various creatures. Be sure to check it out as well.
