MARK IS Minatomirai: Enjoy a relaxing break with art and design

Jun 24, 2013

MARK IS Minato Mirai, which opened on the 21st, has ample seating spaces (rest areas) in its common areas.

Rest spaces are located at both ends and in the center of each floor, around escalators, and elsewhere. There are over 30 in total. Based on the facility's concept of a "three-dimensional urban park," they have been positioned to act as pocket parks within the facility. Rather than simply lining up simple sofas in various locations, furniture with elaborate fabrics and shapes has been used, including serpentine benches, benches with mosaic patterns, and moss-covered cushions. In addition, artwork has been applied to the walls. 、 宮城県の東京都の南口で徒歩2分。 English:

"In line with our facility development concept of a 'Life Entertainment Mall,' we considered the seating space to be part of the 'life' that guests will spend their time in the facility. To make sitting enjoyable, we created highly designed chairs and placed art around the seating. The style is in line with the floor merchandising. For example, on the third floor, where kids' items are sold, we placed squirrel and rabbit shaped sofas. It also functions as a space to showcase the work of young artists." (Mitsubishi Estate Commercial Facilities Development Division)

Not only are the rest areas neatly designed, but the approach to the restrooms and smoking room, which are usually given an impression of cleanliness, also incorporates the essence of art. "Since the restrooms and smoking rooms are also part of daily life (life), we designed them in a fun way to highlight their function." (Same source)

In addition, on the second floor there is a corner called "Wandering Gallery" that is linked to the Yokohama Museum of Art, which faces the facility, and collaborative events with the museum are planned throughout the year.
