Our Favorite Shop in Shirokane, Tokyo, will be holding "around Lake Biwa vol.2 'Shitsuraeru'" from January 13th to February 12th, 2018.
Around Lake Biwa is a special exhibition introducing the passion and skills of artisans who continue to work around Lake Biwa in Shiga Prefecture. This second installment, titled "Shitsuraeru," will feature arrangements using wood, fire, and earth in accordance with everyday scenes.
The "wood" element will be handled by Nakagawa Mokkogei (Otsu City, Shiga Prefecture, Representative Nakagawa Shuji), the "fire" element by Wa Rosoku Daiyo (Takashima City, Shiga Prefecture, Representative Onishi Takumi), and the "earth" element by KIKOF, a product brand that manufactures pottery through Maruji Seito (Koga City, Shiga Prefecture, Representative Imai Tomokazu).

Workshops will also be held during the event. From 1pm to 3pm on January 28th, Nakagawa Woodcraft will be holding a wooden cutlery-making workshop, limited to 10 people. The wood used in the workshop is characterized by its beautiful natural curves around the knots. Participants will carve out cute, slightly distorted spoons and forks using a plane, knife or carving knife.

On February 4th, Wa Candle Daiyo will be hosting a Hitohito Tea Ceremony. The Hitohito Tea Ceremony is an attempt to explore the relationship between fire and people, and the concept is to consider the relationship between fire and people, and between people and nature. Facing the light of a candle, participants ponder the meaning of "rich living" and "social maturity" through the medium of Japanese candles while savoring a cup of coarse tea. There are four sessions in total: from 12:30 to 1:30 PM, 2:30 to 3:30 PM, 4:30 to 5:30 PM, and 6:30 to 7:30 PM. Each session is limited to three people. The participation fee for all workshops is 2,000 yen. To apply for a Hitohito Tea Ceremony hosted by Warosoku Daiyo, please email (reserve@ofs.tokyo) with the reservation date (e.g., 1/28 reservation) in the subject line, your name, phone number, and desired time slot.
