Louis Vuitton launches new version of the LV Trainer bag, combining eco-design and exceptional craftsmanship

Jul 25, 2022
Louis Vuitton is pleased to present a new version of its iconic LV Trainer sneaker. Taking sustainability to the next level, this exquisitely graphic silhouette is crafted from 90% recycled, bio-based materials, truly combining creativity, sustainability, and eco-design.

The new LV Trainer comes in three colorways and features the Maison's signature "Sustainable Development" logo. Created by Virgil Abloh and redefining the Louis Vuitton men's shoe collection, this one-of-a-kind model embodies the Maison's innovative spirit and writes a new chapter in the history of eco-design. Crafted with an incredibly complex manufacturing process in Louis Vuitton's shoe atelier in Fiesso d'Artico, Italy, these sneakers combine eco-design and exceptional craftsmanship in accordance with Louis Vuitton's circular creativity code.

A true icon in the sportswear world, the LV Trainer breaks new ground without compromising Louis Vuitton's standards of creativity and quality. The sole, which is key to weight and comfort, is made from an unprecedented 94% recycled polyurethane, yet remains responsive, cushioned, and supportive—particularly thanks to the recycled cotton inner padding and insole made entirely from recycled polyurethane. The upper is made from a blend of recycled polyester and corn-based plastic. Laces made from used plastic are fastened to a tongue made from recycled polyester, and the eyelets contain 91% recycled polyurethane. The LV Trainer proudly features a logo designed by Virgil Abloh. A visual example of Louis Vuitton's upcycling philosophy, it has been a symbol of the Maison's commitment to sustainable development since its inception. The logo, available in white with green accents in August and in white with black and white with red accents in September, also appears on the inside of the box. Crafted from fully recycled and recyclable cardboard, the box transforms into a bag thanks to an ingenious handle—a strategy that saves approximately 70% on materials, minimizing the environmental impact of both transportation and storage. Additionally, Louis Vuitton has chosen to use plant-based inks and retain the original kraft paper lining of this unprecedented packaging. Finally, a felt shoe bag made from Tencel™—a renewable fiber derived from sustainably managed forests—serves the LV Trainer as a sustainable protective layer. "Our committed journey" is Louis Vuitton's sustainable development plan, aligned with LIFE360 (LVMH's environmental initiative). Through six action paths, we aim to protect natural resources (sourcing sustainable materials, contributing to climate change, and a circular approach to creativity) and to have a positive impact on society (diversity and inclusion, community engagement, and the development of expertise).
