Homme Plisse Issey Miyake unravels the spirit of the Jomon period through the artistry of clay figurines [Men's Spring/Summer 2018]

Dec 29, 2017

HOMME PLISSÉ ISSEY MIYAKE has unveiled its Spring/Summer 2018 collection. Deliveries will begin in December.

Continuing from last season, the focus is on Japan's Jomon period. Inspired by the artistry seen in clay figurines with their various shapes and expressions, the collection presents delicate pointillist drawings of "Shade-Dogu" and "Owl-Dogu" clay figurines in vibrant colors, expressing them as modern "patterns." A total of 24 looks were proposed, mixing ancient motifs with the brand's signature sporty elements. The clay figurines depicted on jackets, shirts, and sarouel pants are elevated with pop art-like, modern, and airy accents in yellow and pink. Even the plain, one-button jackets and T-shirts, with their distinctive puffy shapes, are reminiscent of clay figurines. Rustic linen, characterized by its characteristically rough texture, is used in mid-length coats, shorts, and voluminous long pants, featuring bold designs with fringed hems. Furthermore, simple yet rugged pieces evocative of everyday wear from long ago, such as square knits made from a linen-polyester blend fabric using the whole garment technique, and T-shirts made from cut-off cotton-linen jersey, enhance the styling. In addition to the traditional, simple pleated bags, the bag collection introduces the sporty "PLEATS DAYPACK" backpack and the slim, envelope-style "PLEATS FLAT BAG." The "PLEATS FLAT BAG" lineup includes two types: a body bag and a backpack. In addition to plain backpacks, the backpacks will also be available in a jacquard-woven arrowhead pattern.

A special site for the 2018 Spring/Summer collection has been set up on the brand's official website (isseymiyake.com/hommeplisse/), which is currently showing image videos and details of each item.
