Roppongi Hills will be opening a beer garden and cafe in collaboration with contemporary artist Yayoi Kusama for a limited time starting July 19th. The special event, "LOVE TOKYO SUMMER: The World of Yayoi Kusama Spreads Throughout the City," commemorating the 10th anniversary of the park's opening, will feature a beer garden called "Polka Dot Garden" (until September 1st), inspired by the polka dots that appear in Kusama's artwork; a standing bar called "Polka Dot Terrace" (open until August 11th), the first of its kind at 66 Plaza, the entrance to Roppongi Hills; and a cafe serving tea sets from Kusama's "My Favorite Me" series, which she released this spring. (The cafe will be open from August 6th to 18th.) The cafe will offer an original menu inspired by Kusama's works, and the attached merchandise shop will sell tableware from the latest installment in the series. Also planned are DVD screenings related to Kusama and special events featuring artists associated with her. Kusama is currently exhibiting her new work, "Love is Calling," at the Mori Art Museum's "LOVE: Forms of Love in Art" (until September 1st). Since the museum opened, she has participated in various projects, including the solo exhibition "Kusama Matrix: Yayoi Kusama Exhibition" (2004) and the main exhibition at Roppongi Art Night (2012).
