"Genichiro Inokuma Exhibition: Cats" will be held at Bunkamura The Museum in Shibuya from March 20 to April 18, 2018, showcasing the unique felines of Genichiro Inokuma, whose objective perspective on cats and reverence for them as companions are in harmony. Genichiro Inokuma, a painter who repeatedly experimented in the prosperous Showa era art world, always maintained his own unique style and left behind a body of extremely distinctive work. He was known as an avid cat lover, having "kept a dozen cats at once," and cats were an important presence in both his personal life and as motifs in his artwork. Of course, his art is not limited to cats. This exhibition is designed to provide an opportunity to experience the profound world of Inokuma Genichiro through his depictions of his beloved felines. It features over 100 works, primarily oil paintings, watercolors, and drawings of cats from the collection of the Marugame Genichiro-Inokuma Museum of Contemporary Art in Inokuma's hometown of Kagawa Prefecture, as well as a few other works. Early bird tickets (general admission only, ¥900 tax included), offering a ¥400 discount over same-day tickets, are on sale from October 7 to January 5, 2018. Starting January 6, regular advance tickets (general admission, ¥1,100 tax included; university and high school students, ¥700 tax included; junior high and elementary school students, ¥400 tax included) and limited-edition advance tickets with original badges (general admission only, ¥1,400 tax included) will be on sale until March 19.
