Volcom ambassador and photographer Takeshi Shimamoto is holding his first solo exhibition in about two years in Ginza

Event Date:2017.10.18-10.30

Photographer and Volcom ambassador Joji Shimamoto's first photo exhibition in about two years is being held at "Basement GINZA" until October 30th.

The exhibition will feature a special darkroom-themed booth, as well as collaborative works by close friends, including graffiti writers and installation artists. The works will be composed almost entirely of new works shot with a Leica Q.

Shimamoto Takeshi's simple shooting style fully encapsulates the charm of classic photography, capturing within his images humidity, sound, smells, resonances and other things that cannot be touched or seen, appealing to the viewer's senses through their sight and inviting them to relive the experience. Additionally, a talk show will be held during the event featuring Leica Camera Japan and professional skater Hiroaki Kawabuchi, also known as buchi. This new encounter, which only Shimamoto Takeshi can create, will make a significant contribution to the cultural development of both the Olympics and the world.

He also set up a booth to promote the "2017 TRUE TO THIS PhotoContest #TTTPHOTO," a photography competition hosted by Volcom, for which he serves as an ambassador. He not only showcases his work, but also aims to ignite excitement in the scene and inspire the next generation, multi-generational, and multicultural.

While society has finally shifted from material consumption to experience-based consumption, Takeshi Shimamoto has always valued the "scene" above all else, documenting it ever since he was a boy with a camera in his hand. His love for photographic culture and camera technology is further highlighted by his deep knowledge of the diverse cultures that create momentary excitement, from fashion and music to skateboarding and graffiti. Don't miss this exhibition, which captures the exclusive charm of modern Tokyo through his lens. Born in Chiba Prefecture in 1983, Takeshi Shimamoto graduated from the Photography Department of the Academy of Art University in San Francisco, CA, in 2007. He organized and curated numerous photo exhibitions while living in the United States. After returning to Japan in 2008, he held a large-scale exhibition at The Artcomplex Center of Tokyo in Shinjuku. He was selected as one of "Japan's 100 Photographers" in a special issue of STUDIO VOICE in 2009. In recent years, his work has been exhibited at Laforet Harajuku and BLUE NOTE TOKYO, and his photos have been used as the main image for the NEW CITY ART FAIR in New York. He is not only a creative director, but also an active artist.
