Toga exudes inner femininity [Women's Spring/Summer 2018]

Sep 23, 2017

On September 18th, TOGA presented their Spring/Summer 2018 collection in London. The venue was Southwark Cathedral, located right next to London Bridge. Inside the cathedral, London's oldest Gothic building, the brand presented an exquisitely balanced collection that exuded an inner femininity.

The show opened with a menswear-inspired tailored jacket, a staple for several seasons. The lower part was cut off, and the high-waisted pants had a large slit in the loose fit, allowing them to sway with every step. The tailored jacket continued to be transformed in various ways, such as being worn inside out or with the sleeves cut off to resemble a vest, revealing a DIY spirit. While the collection featured a variety of masculine pieces, the "texture" of the fabric and the "liberation" of the skin exuded a touch of femininity. A hole in the skirt's center revealed one leg. The sheen of the clear materials used on belts, sandals, skirts and coat backs brought a sensual feeling. Femininity was clearly highlighted by unpredictable mix-and-match, such as combining two sleeves in different materials or a dress with pleats only at the hem.

Sometimes unnatural, sometimes unpredictable, it was a free spirit enjoying itself as it went. Rather than being worn, it felt as if the garments were gently enveloping the body, affirming femininity.
