The hpgrp Gallery Tokyo, run by H.P. France, will host the collaborative exhibition "Ippin Saraya," which brings together the tea ceremony and contemporary art. It will run from July 27th to July 21st.
This exhibition is a collaboration between "Ippin Saraya," an organization exploring modern tea ceremony, and the hpgrp Gallery. The gallery itself is considered a "modern tea room," showcasing tea utensils, Chinese tea ware, and tea sets by artists such as Miyahara Yumega and Murayama Maria, alongside contemporary art. The exhibition aims to shed light on the similarities and differences between tea culture and art. While the Japanese tea ceremony is characterized by a unique aesthetic sense of wabi-sabi and a sense of value in "tea as art," it is often far removed from everyday life. The same is true of art. This exhibition aims to encourage more people to incorporate both into their lifestyles. Tea ceremonies will also be held on July 7th, 13th, and 15th during the exhibition period.
Ippon Saraya is a unit consisting of Saraya Tsutazaemon and Ogihara Akiko. They reinterpret the tea ceremony in a modern way and work to spread "modern tea ceremony" through exhibitions and events. They operate a number of modern tea ceremony brands, including "Cha Girl," a modern tea ceremony brand that develops cute tea utensils for women. In planning and producing exhibition events, they collaborate with apparel brands, contemporary art galleries, and companies.
