Jul 18, 2014

The fifth annual Tokyo Food Film Festival will be held for two weeks starting October 10th, mainly in Omotesando. This festival brings together films that portray connections between people through food and films with striking food themes, making it a must-see for both movie buffs and foodies. A carefully selected selection of delicious films will be screened at Theater Image Forum in Shibuya, Tokyo, from hot new releases to nostalgic classics and documentaries not yet released in Japan, including "The Angel's Share," "El Bulli: The Secret of the World's Most Difficult Restaurant to Book," "Ristorante Olinda," "Glasses," "Dinner Rush," "In the Mood for Love," "Floating Clouds," "Lovers' Dinner," "Babette's Feast," and "The Taste of Ochazuke." Events include the first-ever "Food Marche," a food court featuring all the food featured in the films, and the "Food Music Festival," where you can enjoy live music perfectly suited to food scenes. Continuing from last year, "Screenings with Meals," where a meal related to the film is served, and "Restaurant Screenings," where a course meal can be enjoyed at a popular restaurant, will also be held.

In addition, starting this year, Tokyo International Film Festival has signed an official partnership agreement with the San Sebastian Film Festival, held in the Basque Country, Spain, a region renowned for its fine cuisine. With the cooperation of both festivals, a prize of 10,000 euros will be awarded to the "Best Film" in the "Culinary Cinema" category, which selects films related to food at the San Sebastian International Film Festival. Producers from the Tokyo Food Film Festival will also serve as judges for this award, and the film will have its Asian premiere at the Tokyo Food Film Festival the following month. Previous award recipients for this award include "Jiro Dreams of Sushi" and "El Bulli: The Secret of the World's Hardest Restaurant to Book."
