From March 18th to 24th, Isetan Shinjuku will be hosting "Cherry Blossom Viewing Party for Adults - Your Cherry Blossoms," a series of cherry blossom viewing and spring-themed workshops and events offering hands-on experiences at Center Park/The Stage #4 on the fourth floor of the main building and in the banquet room on the seventh floor of the main building. Cherry blossom viewing is a traditional Japanese spring tradition. Through this event, the store aims to embody its stance of reexamining what has been around since ancient times and what it wants to continue to cherish. The event content is categorized into "Gatherings," "Goods," "Food & Drink," "Fashion," "Interior," and "Live Performances." One of the highlights is "Tenaraido Under the Cherry Blossoms." Nippon Tenaraido and Shinjuku Isetan are collaborating to offer 10 different workshops. Nippon Tenaraido is a select shop that brings together experiences that allow visitors to experience craftsmanship from all over Japan. Workshops held at Tenaraido under the Cherry Blossoms range from talk shows to making cherry blossom-dyed scarves and succulent arrangements. The "Lunch to Learn About the Origins of Cherry Blossoms" course (participation fee: 20,000 yen / 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM on the 18th) will feature folk and traditional researcher Rieko Ido, who will share stories about cherry blossom viewing and the equinox while eating her handmade bento lunches. Also, the "Equinox Tea Ceremony with the Play of the Sho" (participation fee: 10,000 yen / 2:00 PM to 3:30 PM on the 22nd) will feature the sound of the traditional Japanese instrument, the sho, while enjoying cherry blossom-flavored botamochi rice cakes. During the event, he will also be holding a talk show on the theme of "Cherry Blossom Viewing and the Japanese People" (free participation; 2:00 PM and 5:00 PM on the 18th, 12:30 PM and 5:00 PM on the 22nd; each session lasts 30 minutes).
"Making Your Own Cherry Blossom-Dyed Stole (or Hagoromo Scarf)" (participation fee: 20,000 yen for a large stole, 12,000 yen for a double-layered Hagoromo scarf; participation fees: 2:30 PM and 6:00 PM on the 18th, 2:30 PM and 6:00 PM on the 19th; each session lasts 1 hour and 45 minutes) is a plant-dyeing workshop by MAITO, a plant-dyeing brand in Kuramae, Tokyo. Using dye made from boiled cherry blossoms, you can dye your own stole (or scarf) using dyes made from natural cherry blossoms, creating shibori (tied) or gradations to your liking. At the "Spring Succulent Arranging Experience" (participation fee: 6,000 yen; 5:30 PM on the 22nd, 11:00 AM and 1:30 PM on the 23rd, 3:30 PM and 6:00 PM on the 24th; each session lasts 1 hour and 30 minutes), you can learn tips for flower arranging and how to care for succulents from an instructor at "Tokiiro," who offers succulent arrangement suggestions. The "Original Suzugami Making" experience (participation fee: 6,000 yen; 1:00 PM, 2:00 PM, 3:00 PM, 5:00 PM, 6:00 PM, and 7:00 PM on the 20th; each session lasts 30 minutes) is offered by Shimatani Shoryu Kobo's original brand, "syouryu." "Suzugami" is an item made by skilled artisans rhythmically hammering a sheet of tin into a thin sheet. This workshop will allow participants to use a hammer to create their desired patterns on suzugami, which can be bent and straightened freely, to create plates and trinket boxes.
