White Mountaineering's first custom-made "Stan Smith" model

Mar 5, 2015

On March 14th, White Mountaineering will release the first custom model of the Stan Smith sneaker from adidas Originals, the "adidas Originals x White Mountaineering" (gray, navy, 20,000 yen each).

The Stan Smith was released in 1973 as a revolutionary "leather tennis shoe with ventilation holes," which was revolutionary at the time. By 1991, 22 million pairs had been sold, and it was registered in the Guinness Book of World Records as the "world's best-selling sneaker." Its re-release in January 2014, after a two-year hiatus, has generated much buzz.

The Stan Smith being released this time is a custom model by White Mountaineering. The shoe tongue is adorned with an illustration of mountains, and the heel patch and insole have a marquetry pattern. The heel part has a slightly wider shape that emphasizes durability, showcasing the functional beauty that is characteristic of White Mountaineering. The shoe retains original details such as the "opanke stitching" on the side sole and perforations that resemble the three stripes. The material is suede and nubuck leather, and the color palette is available in two colors: navy x white and gray x charcoal.
