On September 14th, 3.1 Phillip Lim unveiled their Spring/Summer 2016 collection. This milestone collection marks the brand's 10th anniversary, and its concept was "Stop and Smell the Flowers." This collection embodies the brand's pride and gratitude for remaining independent for 10 years amid today's rapidly changing fashion world. The designer stated, "Just as we notice the beauty of flowers in full bloom and savor their fragrance, we should enjoy and appreciate the beauty and miracle of what is right in front of us, and life itself." Speaking of flowers, soil is an essential element. In collaboration with artist and environmentalist Maya Lin, 200 tons of organic soil was brought to the venue to create a giant conical pyramid. Beautiful looks, interspersed with floral prints and floral embroidery made from scraps, blossomed throughout the venue. The color palette was composed of soft earth tones, with white, beige, and brown as the base, accented with green, khaki, and light blue. Furthermore, the incorporation of formal materials like silk and delicate details into basic sportswear expressed the "coexistence" of opposing elements. For example, sporty items like blousons were paired with delicate tulle, knit materials, and raw-edged ruffle details, creating an overall sense of poetic romanticism. Furthermore, Philip Lim's signature worldview was fully on display, with cuts that flatter the female form and a subtly sweet feminism. With this collection, Philip Lim went beyond simply creating trends, rethinking traditional clothing and proposing a new, more relatable value system for luxury. In an era where values regarding luxury itself are changing, this stunning collection proved that he is a rare designer capable of creating value that goes beyond trends.
