Monika Sofnowska's first solo exhibition in Japan to be held at Ginza Maison Hermès

Dec 4, 2014

Ginza Maison Hermès Forum will host an exhibition of contemporary artist Monika Sosnowska from January 20th through March 31st.

Sosnowska was born in Poland in 1972 and is currently based in Warsaw. She has received acclaim for her architecturally-inspired installations and sculptures. Her work is characterized by a grand scale, and she extracts fragmented details from the walls, staircases, and other elements of abandoned buildings and incorporates them into her works. It is said that her work was inspired by her own experiences in her homeland, where she witnessed the destruction of public facilities and buildings following the collapse of communism.

This is Sosnowska's first solo exhibition in Japan. A new work will be unveiled, based on the theme of "gates to private homes." It is said to be a work that conveys a strong message from Sosnowska, expressing the resilience of people who survive and rebuild even when the government collapses and dreams and hopes are lost.
