On February 25th, she released her second album, "I-POP." "Because we live in an age where CDs are hard to come by, I want to create music that leaves a lasting impression even when heard. I'd be happy if people became interested in me through it," Muto said. Following the album's release, her annual birthday concert will be held. At the Shibuya Public Hall concert on April 29th, Muto said, "I want you to pay attention to my costumes." In fact, since her solo debut, Muto has never worn the same outfit for a live performance. The styling for her debut album and live performances was handled by stylist Tetsuro Nagase, highlighting her commitment to the visuals of a 21st-century idol. Influenced by her parents, Muto was exposed to '80s music from a young age, and even released a CD of cover songs by '80s solo idols before her debut. Born in 1996, Muto, of course, never experienced the '80s in person. From Muto's perspective, the '80s were "an era in which solo idols had a huge presence." Indeed, Seiko Matsuda, whom she admires and who closed last year's Red and White Song Battle, still has something about her that draws people in, even more than 30 years after her debut in 1980. Will traditional idols transcend the ages?
To the strange question, "What is the job of a traditional idol?" Muto answers, "Someone who delivers a sense of sparkle forever. Their job is to remain unchanged through the ages." She then adds, her eyes sparkling, "That's why my challenge has only just begun." Muto Ayami, 18 years old. Will she become a small revolutionary in the idol world?
