Culture Convenience Club will open Shonan T-SITE, a cultural complex based around a Tsutaya bookstore, on December 12th within Fujisawa Sustainable Smart Town (Fujisawa SST) in Fujisawa City, Kanagawa Prefecture. A preview was held on the 10th.
Shonan SST is a joint public-private project between Fujisawa City and partner companies, and is a next-generation town with 1,000 homes on a site of approximately 200,000 square meters. This T-SITE follows Daikanyama, and was chosen for its location due to the high profile of the "Shonan" brand and the large number of baby boomer families living there.
A survey of local residents conducted in advance revealed many requests for nearby cafes and bookstores, leading to the creation of a bookstore-based concept. Every shop is stocked with books, as if Tsutaya bookstores had expanded their shelves, with the number of magazines alone reaching 10,000. This unique mall organically connects bookstores and specialty shops. Around the cookbook section are shops selling food and tableware, as well as cooking classes. Tsutaya and 30 other shops collaborate to offer a unique Shonan lifestyle. The entire facility is a book and cafe, with 300 seats available both indoors and outdoors. Enjoy a book and a book anywhere you like with a cup of coffee. The striking building, with its pure white exterior embossed with Tsutaya's iconic ivy leaves and vibrant green ivy entwined around it, was designed by the same architectural firm, Klein Dytham architecture, as was the Daikanyama building. Three two-story buildings line the complex. Building 1 houses entertainment, including travel goods store Globewalker, pet service GREEN DOG, and convenience store FamilyMart!, as well as a retail and repair center in collaboration with Apple. Starbucks Coffee's walls and chairs feature a blue fabric reminiscent of the Shonan sea. Building 2 is themed around "slow food and slow life," with a lineup centered around food. New establishments include bakery bar "midi a midi," cooking utensil retailer Kamaasa Shoten, Skylark's casual restaurant "THANKS ON THE TABLE" with a focus on slow food, and "LIFE sea," a collaboration with Yoyogi's slow food Italian restaurant LIFE. Isetan Mirror, offering a selection of domestic and international cosmetics, also has a store here. Building 3 is a "family" building themed around spending quality time with children. "FERMENT," an open space combining manufacturing machines and a shared kitchen, offers workshops on cooking, handicrafts, flower arranging, and more. Studio members are welcome to use the space at any time, and cooking utensils and tableware are available for rental for home parties and other occasions. The T-SITE Shonan Cooking School offers courses on how to make everyday meals and preserved foods. Professional chefs have built connections with local farmers and will carefully teach you how to cook dishes using seasonal ingredients.
In addition, the site has also set up the Car Life Lab Shonan Magazine Terrace as a base for sharing car lifestyle suggestions. It mainly displays eco-cars and also holds events.
