Wedding photographer Yoshitaka Oyamada is hosting a "Bride's Dressing Room" fair at the Isetan Shinjuku Main Building's 6th floor stationery section, showcasing bridal items selected under the theme of "photogenic." The fair runs until March 4th. The fair features items necessary for brides and weddings, as well as guest dresses, gifts, and everyday items, primarily from designer brands. The lineup evokes the essence of French cinema actresses from the good old days, a favorite of Oyamada, who still shoots on film. The dresses, based on the theme of "cinema wedding," offer classic designs, including a simple silk dress from "classique cloque" inspired by a scene from a vintage film, and a dress from "tete" inspired by a garden party in a rural French town. The fair offers dresses and accessories for sophisticated women who want to express their individuality, including vintage dresses selected by the owner from his travels around the world and one-of-a-kind pieces handmade from start to finish. The site also features paper items by husband-and-wife illustrator and designer duo HARETOKE, handmade stamps from gobe, a long-established seal shop founded in 1924, and adorable wedding sweets from Marie Gateau, reminiscent of those seen in Western books and movies. It also features gifts and accessories that can be incorporated into everyday life, such as aromatherapy, candles, and tea. "When photographing weddings, I often heard people say, 'We weren't able to have a wedding that was truly ours.' I think this is because, when people decide to get married, they first choose a venue, and then select a dress and photography from the venue's affiliated store. I realized that if we could reverse that process, we could have a wedding that was truly ours, and that's how this project began," explains Oyamada.
He continues, "When it comes to wedding photography, you need to understand not only the space where the photo shoot will take place, but also all the other items, such as the dress, rings, and bouquet. As a photographer, I suggest items with a story to tell from a photogenic perspective. You can make unexpected discoveries by selecting not only the dress, but also small rings and accessories based on whether they will look good in photos. It would be a waste to just leave the ring you've taken the time to choose on a rented ring pillow." He offers suggestions that only a wedding photographer with in-depth knowledge of weddings, such as the lighting and size of the venue, can offer.
During the fair, you can actually hear Oyamada's advice in-store. There will also be a number of workshops held by participating brands. On February 26th and 28th (11am and 3pm each day), there will be the "Ashiya framer Mukai Rieko's French framing workshop" (participation fee: 7,350 yen), on March 1st (11am to 2pm and 4pm to 7pm), there will be the "Tokyo sous le nez room mist LABO" (2,625 yen), and on March 2nd (11am, 1pm and 3pm), there will be the "Ashiya Matinee bride training: how to make tea that your husband will say is delicious" (2,100 yen) (reservations required for all events).
