Film director Steven Spielberg was born on December 18, 1946, in Ohio, USA. He dropped out of California State University, Long Beach. In 1961, he made "Battle Squad," a film that combined World War II with ground-based footage of airplanes. In 1964, he released "Firelight," a film about aliens invading a small town. He then worked on television programs and short films, and in 1971, he directed "Murder by the Book," a Columbo series. It was the release of "Jaws" in 1975 that made Spielberg's name known worldwide. After the success of "E.T." in 1982, he became recognized as a pioneer of special effects films. His subsequent films, "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom" in 1984 and "Back to the Future" in 1985, were box office successes, leading to numerous sequels. Spielberg's 1988 film "Who Framed Roger Rabbit" also garnered attention for its groundbreaking idea of combining animation with live-action films.
While Spielberg continued to produce hit films, his most representative work of the 1990s was 1993's "Jurassic Park." That same year, he won the Academy Award for Best Director and Best Picture for "Schindler's List." Another essential masterpiece in Spielberg's career was 1998's "Saving Private Ryan."
He also worked on television programs in the 1990s, releasing "SeaQuest DSV" in 1993. He also demonstrated his talents in a variety of fields, including co-producing a World War II documentary with Tom Hanks and working on the video game "Medal of Honor."
