On February 10th, during New York Women's Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2017-18, Calvin Klein presented its first collection since Raf Simons took over as Chief Creative Officer. The runway show, held at Calvin Klein headquarters, featured edgy stage art by American artist Sterling Ruby, featuring fringe, rope, and denim, and opened with a David Bowie song. The first look, presented by up-and-coming model Lulu, featured a minimalist pants look, evoking a nostalgic American vibe with details on the shoulders and flap pockets. The turtleneck collars featured in several looks featured the brand's headquarters address, "205," embroidered on the collar, showcasing Simons' signature playful simplicity. Additionally, the collection featured masculine double-breasted jackets made with men's tailoring, dresses and coats covered in transparent PVC, see-through dresses with colorful feathers on the front, denim sets, and biker suits, showcasing a cross-cultural fusion of various clothing styles to create new forms. True to the show's theme, "PARADE," the collection evoked a unique parade, incorporating elements of marching band uniforms, coated protective gear, powerbroker-inspired tailoring, antique quilting, workwear, and Western styles. A mid-show look, a long dress seemingly wrapped in the American flag, was a quintessential homage to America. Simons described the collection as "not one era, one thing, or one style. It's a coming together of various personalities and individuals, just like America itself. That is the beauty and emotion that is unique to America." At the end of the show, Simons and his longtime assistant Pieter Mulier appeared to conclude his first collection.
