Daimaru Matsuzakaya Department Store designs official uniform for Japanese athletes at the Sochi Olympics

Dec 11, 2013

At the Sochi Winter Olympics (22nd Olympic Winter Games 2014/Sochi) in February 2014, the Japanese Olympic team will wear official uniforms designed by Daimaru Matsuzakaya Department Stores. While the official sportswear worn at award ceremonies and press conferences will be provided by Descente, Mizuno, and ASICS Japan under an official partnership agreement with the Japanese Olympic Committee (JOC), the official uniforms worn at official events such as team formation ceremonies and during travel will feature designs proposed by Daimaru Matsuzakaya Department Stores. The official uniforms are based on gray, with the men's set consisting of seven items: a jacket, slacks, dress shirt, tie, belt, socks, and a long-sleeved polo shirt for travel, all featuring a traditional Japanese navy blue. The women's set consists of eight items: a jacket, slacks, blouse, scarf, belt, socks, a long-sleeved polo shirt for travel, and a shoulder bag, all in the traditional "sakura" color. The uniforms are made of high-performance materials. The items are produced in Japan, primarily in the Tohoku region, where traditional beauty and skilled craftsmanship are prized.

The jacket, unisex, is made from a high-quality blend of cashmere and wool using luxurious fine yarn (Super 100). It features gold-rimmed buttons embossed with the JOC No. 1 emblem, and the interior piping is the red of the national flag. The men's slacks and women's pants are made from a high-quality, high-density wool material.

The men's dress shirt and women's blouse are made from a woven striped material. The men's shirt features a blue stripe button-down collar, while the women's blouse features a pink stripe skipper collar that complements a scarf. The men's tie and women's scarf are made from beautiful, lustrous silk, with the women's scarf featuring a cherry blossom pattern.
