
Actress Satomi Ishihara was born on December 24, 1986, in Tokyo.
She won the grand prize at the 27th Horipro Talent Scout Caravan "Pure Girl 2002" and made her full-fledged debut in the entertainment industry. One month after the awards ceremony, filming began for the movie "My Grandpa," starring her in the lead role. It was released in 2003 and won numerous film awards, including the Japan Academy Award for Newcomer of the Year. Also that same year, she played the heroine Fuyuko Iwata in the NHK morning drama "Teruteru Kazoku," for which she won the Golden Arrow Award for Best Newcomer of the Year and the Best Newcomer of the Year.
On television, she appeared in "Water Boys 2" in 2004 and won the Elan d'or Newcomer Award. In 2005, she was selected to play Shizuka Gozen in the NHK Taiga drama "Yoshitsune." In 2005, she won the Japan Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role as Komatsubara Tae, a young girl living in the harsh natural environment of Hokkaido in the early Meiji period, in the film "Year Zero in the North." She has since appeared in numerous hit films, and in 2007, she made her voice acting debut in the animated film "Monster House." In 2006, she also ventured into the stage, playing the lead role of Helen Keller in "The Miracle Worker." Ishihara has also appeared in numerous television commercials, and in 2013, she appeared in her first cosmetics commercial for the base makeup brand "Sofina Primavista." Recently, it was announced that she will appear in the film "Attack on Titan," due for release in 2015, and this has been attracting attention along with the "Attack on Titan Exhibition" that opened at the Ueno Royal Museum in November.
