Wako in Ginza 4-chome will be renovated into a Seiko Group hub and reopen in June 2022.

Dec 17, 2021

In 2022, Seiko Holdings Corporation will renovate its Wako Main Building in Ginza 4-Chome, which it owns, and name it "SEIKO HOUSE GINZA," turning it into a hub for promoting the SEIKO brand. As the Seiko Holdings Group's business scope expands, in addition to the Wako Specialty Stores on the basement floors 1 to 4, the fifth floor and rooftop, which have previously been used only for limited purposes, will be utilized as a space for promoting the Seiko brand, which walks hand in hand with society. Making use of the building's historical value, the company will proceed with rooftop renovations and the construction of a new digital studio, and will also promote SDG activities from Ginza to the world. The renovated building is scheduled to reopen on June 10, 2022, the 90th anniversary of the clock tower's completion (some areas will be excluded).

Major Areas to be Renovated (Names of Each Area are Tentative)

- 5th Floor "Guest Lounge"
The 5th floor, which still houses the president's office and conference rooms from the time of construction, will be renovated to create an environment for digital communication both domestically and internationally, supporting webinars and other events, and will be a space suitable for special receptions and presentations.

- 6th Floor "Seiko House Ginza Hall"
The current "Wako Hall" will be renamed and renovated to enable various global communication, including exhibitions related to the group's overall business and co-creation with artists.

- 7th Floor "Workshop"
The 7th Floor "Workshop" will be renovated to create a workshop where visitors can experience the craftsmanship of the Seiko Holdings Group, and will also include a space to exhibit the latest products.

・Rooftop "Sky Garden"
Arranged with a wood deck made from eco-friendly materials and plantings, it will be a hospitality space where you can experience the heart of Ginza while listening to the sound of the clock tower bell.

The floors from the basement to the fourth floor will continue to operate as Wako stores as before.

Seiko's predecessor, the Hattori Watch Shop, opened on a corner lot in Ginza 4-Chome in 1894, and at that time, at the strong request of founder Kintaro Hattori, a clock tower was installed on the roof of the building. Later, in 1932, the second clock tower of the new company building was completed on this site as a symbol of the recovery from the Great Kanto Earthquake, and has since become a beloved Ginza landmark, informing people passing through the area of the accurate time. On this milestone of the 90th anniversary of the second clock tower, Seiko reexamines the role of this place, its origins, and aims to make it a place that conveys the skills of Japanese artisans and the spirit of manufacturing to the future, and promotes SEIKO's journey together with society.
