Fashion designer Yuki Torii was born on January 3, 1943, in Tokyo. At age 15, she worked on textile design for her grandmother's fabric manufacturing company. After graduating from Bunka Gakuin's Fine Arts Department, she studied cutting and design drawing at the Ito Sumako Design Institute. In 1962, she made her debut by participating in her mother's collection, then a designer. Her encounter with Jean-Jacques Piccard led to her debut at the Paris Collection in 1975. Her "kimono-inspired" pieces, boldly featuring kasuri patterns and Japanese floral prints, garnered acclaim in French magazines and newspapers such as Elle. From 1994 to 2000, she presented men's and women's collections. In 2005, she celebrated her 30th anniversary of participating in Paris Fashion Week with a commemorative collection presented at the Yoyogi National Gymnasium, drawing an audience of 4,000. In addition to having boutiques on Suzuran Street in Ginza 5-chome and at Galerie Vivienne in Paris, the brand also sells its items in 60 department stores across the country.
