GalaabenD collaborated on the costumes for the film "Black Butler," due for release on January 18th. The designers were responsible for the butler uniform for the protagonist Sebastian, played by Hiro Mizushima, and the costume for the cross-dressing young lady Genba Seigen, played by Ayame Goriki. The costumes were created over a three-month period, including numerous meetings between Mizushima, stylists, and designers, and including taking Goriki's measurements. The Napoleon jackets, bow ties, and vests characteristic of the brand create a dressy yet sensual atmosphere. The costumes are on display in the window of GalaabenD's Harajuku store in Tokyo until January 24th. Mizushima emphasized "thoroughly matching the size to the body line and creating a silhouette that exudes grace when moving." The tails of the tailcoats are long enough to flutter when moving, and attention to detail is evident in the original buttons and label pins, inspired by heraldry. Mizushima slimmed down to the 50kg range through dietary restrictions, and donned a slim butler uniform just like Sebastian from the original work.
"Black Butler," distributed by Warner Bros., is a film adaptation of the popular comic series, which has sold over 18 million copies in total and has been translated into 42 countries and regions around the world. Directed by Otani Kentaro of the "Nana" series and Sato Keiichi of the TV anime "Tiger & Bunny," the film also stars Yuka, Yamamoto Mizuki, and Kurihara Rui. The film will be released nationwide at Shinjuku Piccadilly and other theaters.
