To celebrate the 175th anniversary of the company's founding and the 150th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Switzerland and Japan, luxury watch brand Patek Philippe will host a special exhibition, "Patek Philippe: Timepieces Through History," at the Meiji Jingu Gaien Museum in the Meiji Shrine's outer gardens, from January 17th through January 19th. The exhibition showcases over 100 precious items from the Patek Philippe Museum's collection in Geneva, Switzerland. The exhibition features 80 masterpieces from the museum's collection, depicting the turmoil of the end of the Edo period, the great reforms of the Meiji Restoration, and the country's journey toward becoming a modern nation. Contemporaneous timepieces (mechanical watches) will be on display alongside timepieces beloved by many great figures, including Queen Victoria of England, Empress Elisabeth of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, Madame Curie, Tchaikovsky, Wagner, and Tolstoy. The exhibition also features a section showcasing the history of Patek Philippe watch design and a pocket watch bearing the Imperial chrysanthemum crest.
