Candice Bergen, an American actress and photographer, was born on May 9, 1946. Her father was ventriloquist Edgar Bergen and her mother, Frances Bergen, was an actress, so she grew up in a family of entertainers. However, she studied abroad in Switzerland at the age of 14 and after returning to Japan studied art history and painting at university, keeping a distance from the entertainment industry. While modeling during her time at university, she caught the eye of director Sidney Lumet and made her debut in the 1966 film The Group. She is also highly acclaimed as a photographer, and her work has been published in fashion magazines such as Vogue, Cosmopolitan, and Life. She played Vogue editor-in-chief Enid Flick in the hit TV drama Sex and the City. ©Getty Images
