On April 28th, Louis Vuitton will launch a new line of bags and accessories designed in collaboration with artist Jeff Koons.
Louis Vuitton has built close ties with the art world through collaborations with some of the most influential artists, including Stephen Sprouse and Takashi Murakami. This time, the brand has chosen Jeff Koons, one of the most widely recognized artists in the contemporary art world and based in New York, as its partner.
The project is based on Koons' solo exhibition "Gazing Ball Paintings," which was held at the Gagosian Gallery in New York in 2015. Koons will be releasing bags that feature oil paintings by Da Vinci, Titian, Rubens, Fragonard, and Van Gogh, which are considered masterpieces worldwide, reproduced on canvas, with the painters' names and "Monogram Flowers" embedded in Koons' signature metal.

Koons's radical reinterpretation of the Monogram, even for Louis Vuitton, is featured as a metallic detail on the outside of the bag, along with Koons's signature. Each bag comes with a tag shaped like an inflatable vinyl rabbit, a motif that has recurred throughout Koons's 40-year career, and the inside of the bag features a biography and portrait of the original artist.
This is only the first collaboration, with further collaborations with Cruise planned.
