Contemporary artist Aida Makoto was born on October 4, 1965, in Niigata Prefecture. After graduating from high school, he attended Yoyogi Seminar School of Art and Design before graduating from Tokyo University of the Arts in 1989 with a degree in oil painting. He completed his graduate studies at the university in 1991. His wife is contemporary artist Yuko Okada. Known for his sensational works that explore themes such as beautiful girls, violence, and eroticism, Aida is immensely popular among young artists in Japan. However, his strong critical perspective and expression often spark controversy. His representative works include "Riding Between the Footpaths," "Seppuku High School Girl," "Painting of a Waterfall," and "Juicer Mixer." In addition to painting, Aida has also worked in photography, sculpture, performance, installation, novels, and manga. Documentary films exploring his work were produced in 2003 and 2012. He primarily exhibits at Mizuma Art Gallery in Aoyama, Tokyo, and has recently been actively holding solo exhibitions in the United States and the United Kingdom.
