The story is set in England in 1993, when Oasis and Blur were taking the rock scene by storm and grunge, punk, fashion, and more coexisted on the streets. Joanna, a high school student from the countryside, makes a bold move, dyes her hair bright red, and takes London by storm, using her literary talent and imagination to become a cutting-edge music writer who takes famous bands like Queen to the next level. To make her spectacular debut, she dons a men's top hat and tuxedo, reminiscent of a classic Marlene Dietrich, and heads to the metropolis of London. Her masculine style reflects her determination to break into a male-dominated world and the free-spirited diversity of British fashion at the time. Rock star John Kite, who watches over Joanna with kindness, sports the grunge style that became popular with the rise of Nirvana. His oversized, rumpled coat exudes the sexiness and ease of a rock star. It was carefully selected from a playlist of over 70,000 songs provided by Catlin Moran, the original author of the book and a former music journalist. "The soundtrack to this film is literally the soundtrack to Joanna's coming of age, her journey, and the story of one girl's journey to becoming who she is," says director Corky Giedroycz. You'll be captivated by the colorful tunes that play out as the girl grows! At Joanna's first live music venue as a writer, the Manic Street Preachers make an appearance.
