The metal unit BABYMETAL has been announced to make their first appearance at the large-scale rock festival "Sonisphere Festival UK," to be held in the UK from July 4th to 6th (local time). BABYMETAL is a metal dance unit consisting of three members: SU-METAL (vocals, dance), YUIMETAL (scream, dance), and MOAMETAL (scream, dance). Their innovative "idol x metal" concept has garnered attention and they've become a huge hit over the past year. Their first album, "BABYMETAL," released in February of this year, debuted at No. 4 on the Oricon Weekly Chart and has sold approximately 50,000 copies to date. In March, they performed a two-day solo concert at Nippon Budokan, the "holy land of Japanese rock." Highly acclaimed for their talent, the group's music is rapidly gaining popularity overseas, with their first album even ranking on the US Billboard chart. They reached number one on the iTunes Metal Albums chart in the US, UK, and Germany, and made it into the top 10 on the Rock Albums chart in many countries, including the US, UK, Australia, Canada, Ireland, Sweden, and Japan. Now, they've been announced to perform at an outdoor festival in the UK, known as the birthplace of rock. This year's Sonisphere Festival UK will feature headliners Metallica, Iron Maiden, and The Prodigy. While other notable artists include Slayer and Dream Theater, Babymetal will be the only Japanese artists participating this year.
