Paul Smith joins Lladró's "The Guest" in masked form

Apr 13, 2014

Jaime Hayon designed "The Guest" as an original character for Lladró in 2012, and Paul Smith, the first fashion designer to do so, attended the unveiling party at the Paul Smith Space in Jingumae, Tokyo. Handcrafted in Lladró's own factory in Valencia, Spain, "The Guest" expresses a new worldview through collaborations with artists from different fields. Paul Smith's design for this occasion is characteristically witty, as he explained, "I participated as a 'guest' wearing a dog and cat mask." The design was inspired by confetti flying at a masked party, and actual dog and cat masks and confetti stickers were distributed to attendees at the reception party.

In addition to Jaime Hayon himself, "The Guest" project has so far featured works by illustrator and toy designer Gary Baseman, American artist Tim Biskup, and Devil Robots from Japan.

The Paul Smith pieces are being sold as a numbered collection, with the large priced at 310,000 yen and the small priced at 95,000 yen, each with a serial number. They will be released worldwide first at the Lladró Boutique Ginza, and past The Guests will also be exhibited and sold at the Paul Smith Space Gallery until May 6th.
