Teddy bear artist Hiro Takahashi was born on September 1, 1962. His real name is Hiroshi Takahashi. He is originally from Tokyo.
During his student days, he was a member of the road racing club and achieved success, placing second in the Inter-High School and Inter-College Championships. After graduating from Nihon University, he married Michi Takahashi (maiden name Michiyo Yoshimura) in 1988. They discovered teddy bears during their honeymoon in Vienna.
In 1991, to celebrate their third wedding anniversary, he gave Michi a bear he made himself, and the couple began making teddy bears, launching their business under the name "Fairy Chuckle." Takahashi's work, which is entirely hand-sewn, even down to the ornaments, and finished with a half-backstitch, has been highly praised worldwide. In 1993, he won third place in the American Teddy Bear Artist Competition. That same year, he became the first Japanese artist to have his work exhibited at the Ironbridge Toy Museum in England.
After that, Hiro continued to enter bears in numerous contests, and in 2001 he held his first solo exhibition at the Yokohama Doll Museum. In 2003 he opened the "Hakodate Nishihatoba Museum of Art Teddy Bear Art: The World of Takahashi Michi & Hiro," and became known as one of Japan's leading teddy bear artists.
In recent years, he has also been working on works with messages of global environmental protection, producing a succession of realistic Bola bears and Grizzly bears. He also engages in charitable activities through teddy bears through organizations such as the NPO Japan Teddy Bear Association.
