Tokyo Midtown in Roppongi, Tokyo, will hold its autumn design event, "Tokyo Midtown DESIGN TOUCH 2014," from October 17th to November 3rd. This year's theme for this annual event, which has been held annually since 2007 under the master concept of "enjoying design with all five senses," is "The Design Switch." A variety of content will be provided to stimulate the "design switch" that can transform everyday life into something wonderful simply by adding it to everyday objects and experiences. The lawn plaza will feature "Swari Forest," a space designed by creative director Haruka Furuya and the creative group Galileo Kobo. The space will feature a variety of chairs that will make you want to sit in them, including the "Heart Balance Chair," which requires two people to balance each other, the "Chair that makes you want to confide in a secret," and the "Chair that warms you up when you sit in it." The "Forest School by Roppongi Future Conference," an idea conceived by contemporary artist Noboru Tsubaki and art director Rikako Nagashima, will also be opening. The "Forest School/Open-Air Classroom" will feature special classes under the open sky by creators such as Ellie Omiya, Ryoji Arai, and Masataka Haba (October 25-26, November 1-2). The "Forest School Library" will also feature books selected by creators such as Manabu Mizuno and Kundo Koyama. Other events include "Salone in Roppongi" (October 17-26), where internationally acclaimed designer Tokujin Yoshioka, whose works have been exhibited at Milano Salone, will design a lounge using his latest work; the one-day design college "DESIGN TOUCH Conference" (October 26); and "MAKE HOUSE—New Prototypes of Wooden Houses" (October 17-26), where seven architects, including Torafu Architects and Jo Nagasaka, will present their designs.
