Surrounded by the aroma of coffee, find your favorite tableware at "BLOOM & BRANCH" and "COBI COFFEE" [Visiting Tokyo's Tableware Shops Vol. 4]

Feb 10, 2016
Food and tableware are beautifully presented on the table. Main dishes, side dishes, soups, and other dishes are coordinated while considering the color and balance of the ingredients. It's similar to the feeling you get when choosing clothes in front of a mirror. Just like a closet, your cupboard should also contain your favorite tableware that will add color to your daily meals. This time, we'll introduce recommended shops where you can find special tableware that will make cooking more enjoyable.

BLOOM & BRANCH, located on Antique Street in Aoyama, is a select shop offering high-quality, luxurious clothing, food, and living space that complements everyday life, with a calm atmosphere centered around a Japanese-Western fusion theme. The shop's cafe space, COBI COFFEE, is staffed by a coffee artisan and a shoe shiner in the back, allowing customers to experience the "things and things" of professional staff. The shop's interior design was also handled by Simplicity. This time, we'd like to focus on the beautiful space and the tableware you can admire while immersed in the aroma of coffee.

The pottery lined up near the store's entrance has been selected by store director Yohei Kakimoto, who has traveled all over Japan to select it. Through conversations with the artists, he learns about the traditions and background of their production, and the pieces that convey the handiwork are on display in the store.

These pieces are by ceramic artist Ryoma Matsubara, who mainly creates kohiki pottery, which highlights the soft white of the material. In particular, his slipware, which he has started working on in recent years and uses cosmetic clay, is not only beautiful, but is also durable and easy to use, and is said to be very popular.

In addition, the large tables inside the store display Mashiko ware from Hamada Kiln, as well as works by Yamada Masako and Sゝゝ (S). Come pick up the pieces, feel the texture of each piece, and find the special piece that will fit into your life.

After admiring the pottery inside the shop, why not have a coffee at COBI COFFEE, located on the same floor? The shop serves coffee and tea sweets in tableware by Hokkaido ceramic artist Masako Yamada. Yamada's pieces, which sell out as soon as they arrive, are simple yet striking designs that make any dish look beautiful. Another reason they are loved by fans is that their works convey a gentleness and feminine warmth.

In addition, all of the drip coffee served is brewed using the traditional method of "nel drip," which involves extracting the coffee using a cloth filter. The combination of this old brewing method and new beans creates a mellow flavor that is smooth on the tongue. Also, when you're feeling a little hungry, we recommend trying the "HIGASHIYA Castella," which has just the right amount of sweetness and egg flavor that goes perfectly with black coffee. In addition to castella, you can also enjoy Japanese sweets such as yokan. We also recommend their original muffins and baked goods.

This place, located in the heart of the city, where you can enjoy delicious coffee and snacks in a wonderful space and with the help of professional craftsmanship, seems like it would be a comfortable place to visit when you want to take a break and calm your mind.
