The new Kutani ware "Kinzan Kiln" exhibition, "Re: The Inherited Spirit of Kinzan Kiln," will be held from May 27th to 29th at the Hillside Forum in Daikanyama Hillside Terrace Building F in Daikanyama, Tokyo. Following last year's exhibition, the second such exhibition will feature new plates and bowls featuring redesigned designs based on the "OLD KINZAN" patterns from Kinzan Kiln's archives. The "Re" in the exhibition's title refers to both a "reply" and a "redesign," the creative process of inheriting the essence of traditional techniques and adding new value to them. Among the new products featured this time are "Rim," a plate and bowl that complements the food with the pattern adorning Kinzan Kiln's decorative plates. The interior retains the original pale gray Kutani base, allowing for use with forks and knives. Three patterns are available: "Water Eye," inspired by the "Leaping Carp Plate," whose leaping carp evokes the strength of life; "White Bless," inspired by the rays of the morning sun rising over the mountains; and "Red Arabesque," featuring a floral arabesque pattern against a wet red background.
Also available is a new addition to the "Falling Flower" series, a large plate featuring a riot of seasonal flowers. The design evokes the appearance of roses, hibiscus, hydrangeas, and azaleas falling from the heavens. The base color of the vessels is created using a technique rarely used today called turpentine beating, and is available in three colors: apricot, turquoise, and cocoa.
On May 27, the first day of the exhibition, an opening event will be held, with two parts: Part 1 (2:00 PM - 3:00 PM) and Part 2 (4:00 PM - 5:00 PM). You can enjoy a plate menu by plate tokyo featuring new works from Kinzangama Kiln, along with wine.
