An exhibition of Kinzan Kiln in Daikanyama brings a new style to Kutani ware with its beautiful gold leaf painting

Feb 6, 2015

The Kutani ware exhibition "HEART OF GOLD: The Work of Kinzan Kiln" will be held at Hillside Forum in Daikanyama from February 20th to 22nd.
This exhibition showcases works by Kinzan Kiln in Ishikawa Prefecture, which specializes in gold leaf, amid the gorgeous and dazzling Kutani ware that makes full use of the five colors. Yoshida Mito, the third generation master of the underglaze gold leaf technique, has been designated a nationally designated Important Intangible Cultural Property.
The exhibition will also feature a new "Sake Utensils -shugu-" series designed by Yoshida Moritaka. In addition, numerous works and tools with a beautiful golden glow, crafted over the Kinzan Kiln's 108-year tradition, will be on display. In addition to the delicate painting techniques that have been passed down through the generations, visitors will be able to see the beauty of modern Kutani ware, incorporating new elements.

In addition, on the 20th, a talk show will be held with guests including fourth-generation Kinzangama potter Yukio Yoshida and Moritaka Yoshida, as well as Kobayashi Kazuto, who runs the general goods store "Roundabout/Outbound" in Kichijoji. Afterwards, an opening party will be held featuring works from Kinzangama.
