Balenciaga has unveiled its Pre-Fall 2016 collection. The collection looks back at a century of experimental archives, dating back to the brand's origins. Pieces from the Balenciaga archives are fused with a modern mood and presented in contemporary silhouettes. The semi-fitted lines of the 1952 Spring/Summer collection are mixed with Balenciaga's traditional aviator jacket, while the peep-over collar echoes the 1957-58 Autumn/Winter collection. The cocoon silhouette at the back evokes the 1959 Spring/Summer collection. Prints were also chosen directly from the archives, including the graphic windowpane check of 1966. The floral embroidery detailing from the 1960 Spring/Summer collection also makes a new appearance. Silk scarves and carrés are also reintroduced as garments. The shape of a dress, composed of square layers, is inspired by the natural movement of square fabrics when draped on a couture mannequin. High stiletto boots feature prints that displace texture to blend seamlessly with the garment, while silver and gold are mirrored for a jewellery-like effect, knitted caps frame the head like chignons and fur scarves resemble macro-sized versions of the brand's archive couture labels.
