Coffee, beloved around the world for many years, is once again gaining attention in Japan. A documentary film depicting this new wave of coffee culture, "A Film About Coffee," is scheduled for release in December.

Although an independent production, the film has garnered attention through independent screenings among coffee lovers in 108 cities across 30 countries, leading to its US distribution. It portrays the philosophies and work of key figures active in five cities driving the new wave of coffee culture: New York, San Francisco, Portland, Seattle, and Tokyo.

The film also features James Freeman, founder of Blue Bottle Coffee, which has expanded into Japan. He talks about his original coffee experiences, his passion for siphon bars, and his strong admiration for Japanese pure coffee shops.

The documentary also features Darin Daniel, a green coffee bean buyer for Portland-based Stumptown Coffee Roasters, visiting coffee producers in Rwanda, a coffee-producing country, many times to confirm and share production processes and processing methods with them in his pursuit of delivering better coffee beans with better quality, making it a vivid portrayal of the current state of the major coffee movement.

The documentary film, "A Film About Coffee," will be released sequentially at Shinjuku Cinema Qualite and other theaters nationwide.
