Each bookstore will act as a concierge, recommending "the book you should read now" to FASHION HEADLINE readers. Every Thursday, each store of the art bookstore "NADiff" will introduce a book they recommend. This time, we will be introducing the book they recommend, located at Gallery 5, the Shinjuku branch in Tokyo (3-20-2 Nishi-Shinjuku, Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo Opera City Tower, 3rd floor).
■ "Dutch Modern Design: Rietveld/Bruna/ADO"
This is the official catalogue for the exhibition of the same name currently being held at the Tokyo Opera City Art Gallery. This book introduces the globally influential Dutch modern design, featuring design masters Gerrit Rietveld and Dick Bruna, as well as the Dutch toy series ADO, which is being exhibited in Japan for the first time.
From the many illustrations and materials included in this book, we can see that the Dutch's commitment to pure colors and simple forms is at the root of design movements and philosophies that have had a profound influence on painting, sculpture, architecture, and design, including "De Stijl," founded by Mondrian, who is also famous for Yves Saint Laurent's mini dress.
The term "modern design" may sound difficult, so why not start by reading through the section on "Miffy (the bunny)," a character we all grew up with?
The exhibition "Dutch Modern Design: Rietveld/Bruna/ADO" will be held from September 17th to November 23rd.
