Oct 19, 2016
Starting October 19th, Isetan Shinjuku will be collaborating with the ARITA 400 project, a project celebrating 400 years since the founding of Arita ware, to launch the "ARITA 400project × ISETAN SHINJUKU" project.

With the aim of making world-renowned Japanese porcelain, Arita ware, more enjoyable in everyday life, the event space on the 7th floor of the main building will be holding an event from October 19th to 24th under the theme "Encounter Everyday Arita Ware at the Marche," focusing on Arita ware as tableware. Areas will be set up that feature Arita ware from various perspectives.

In the "Popular Kilns Special Feature," we will be picking out particularly popular kilns and series, such as Shingama, which specializes in the "dami" technique of expressing shading with a brush, Sonosen Kiln, which has a beautiful series in the Rinpa Ko-Imari style, and Keizangama, which is renowned for its soba choko cups.

There is also a large lineup of "Otesho plates," which are small, shallow plates. Many of these plates feature intricate shapes and paintings, and are popular with collectors. They can be enjoyed in a variety of ways, such as for placing condiments or desserts on them, or as trays for accessories.

■Vintage Area

The "Vintage Special" allows you to enjoy Arita ware, which has a history of 400 years, and features paintings that reflect the background of the era as well as porcelain in a variety of styles. Some of the pieces are even ones that can be treasured for many years.

In addition, the "Sake Ware Special" features the "Takumi no Kura" series, which offers two types of vessels, "light" and "rich," to suit the flavor of sake, as well as the "Arita Roman Glass" series, which features a beautiful combination of glass and porcelain, and shochu glasses designed to bring out the flavor of shochu. During the event, "The SAGA Certified Sake" will be held, an event where you can enjoy Saga Prefecture's sake in your favorite Arita ware sake cups.

In addition, from October 19th to November 1st, West Park and Kitchen Dining on the 5th floor of the Main Building will be showcasing works by major Arita potteries under the theme of "Tradition x Modern Arita Ware from Famous Kilns." A wide variety of works with the quality and beauty unique to Arita will be on display, including those by Fukagawa Seiji, Hatamatsutouen, KIHARA, Gen'emon Kiln, Arita Porcelain Lab, 224 Porcelain, and Risogama Kiln.

From October 19th to November 1st, Chef's Selection and Kitchen Stage on the 1st basement floor of the Main Building will be hosting an event themed on "Arita Ware Resonating with Cuisine." Chef Ueki, who first encountered Arita ware through an enthusiastic approach from an Arita ware potter who was captivated by his sensibility, now serves his most exquisite dishes, made with seasonal ingredients from Saga Prefecture, on simple Risogama plates.
