Artist scientist Genfu Nakamura and creative director Tadahiro Konoe will be holding "Glaze: Brilliance Born from Challenge" at The Stage on the first floor of the Isetan Shinjuku Main Building from August 24th to 29th. This exhibition, part of the "Color Festival" at Isetan Mitsukoshi, will feature artworks created by meticulously blending "Glaze," a glaze that Genfu Nakamura developed after 30 years of research, down to 0.0001g. The glaze's color and transparency are precisely controlled, with careful attention paid to the firing time and type of water used. Nakamura was struck by the freshness of water droplets shining in the sunlight after a rain. Driven by a desire to preserve this sensation forever, Nakamura embarked on research into glazes, ultimately achieving the brilliance of "Glaze." The artworks are composed of the shapes of circles, triangles, and squares, which are said to represent the shapes of all things in Zen and other contexts. The ◯ series, inspired by stars shining in space, will feature "Globe" (starting at 100,000 yen), which expresses the vitality of newborns, and "Torus" (starting at 300,000 yen), a sphere with holes drilled at the top and bottom to represent the circulation and permanence of energy. From the △ series, "Pyramid" (starting at 30,000 yen), inspired by the pointed ends of objects that point upward, such as rockets and mountains, will be on display. The theme of this work is growth, and it is said to convey the desire to challenge oneself to reach high goals (the peak). From the □ series, "Prism," a painting that expresses maturity and harmony, will be on display. Also on display during the exhibition will be a collaborative work by Nakamura Genfu and Konoe Tadahiro. All works in the venue will be available for purchase.

The venue design was created by creative director Konoe Tadahiro. The space, which is based on white and is modeled after a laboratory, uses water, the roots of "glaze," throughout the design, highlighting each and every piece. A large display recreates the process by which "glaze" is created, allowing visitors to see the technology behind the pieces.

During the exhibition, there will also be a talk show by Nakamura Genfu and Konoe Tadahiro, as well as a Discover Glaze Tour, where visitors can tour the venue with Nakamura Genfu himself, hearing explanations of his works and the thoughts he put into them.
