Ace Hotel Kyoto (located in Nakagyo Ward, Kyoto City) will celebrate its first anniversary since opening on June 11th, and to commemorate this occasion, they are showcasing the work of Nagaba Yu, an artist with ties to the hotel, in the gallery space on the first floor of the hotel. Nagaba has previously used Ace Hotel's memo pads in his own works, and the works on display this time use the memo pads as a support, with motifs chosen from the people and objects that Nagaba encountered while actually visiting Kyoto and staying at the Ace Hotel. All of the works were created specifically for this exhibition, and will be shown for the first time. In addition, a sticker of one of the works will be available for sale in the hotel's retail shop (price: 550 yen including tax). *Please note that the works will not be for sale.

I created 49 works in total on my notepad. I painted six of my favorites on canvas. I hope that through these works, you can relive my impressions of Kyoto and my time here.

Ever since I heard rumors that an Ace Hotel was opening in Kyoto, I've been wanting to do something with it. While I'm excited about this project, I couldn't come up with any ideas for what kind of exhibition I should create or what I should draw, and time just passed by. After much deliberation, I decided to go to Kyoto and stay at the Ace Hotel to find inspiration. I decided to paint motifs based on things that came to mind during my time here, such as things I saw while walking around Kyoto and staying at the hotel, images that came to mind, and memories that came back to me.
I created 49 works in total on my notepad. I painted six of my favorites on canvas. I hope that through these works, you can relive my impressions of Kyoto and my time here.
