Beer event "Beer Arch" held in a retro space using the brick arch of the old Manseibashi Station

Jul 8, 2013

JR East Station Retailing will host the "Beer Arch" event starting on the 22nd as part of the "Kanda Beer Festival," which aims to revitalize the area around the Manseibashi Viaduct, which is currently under development.

The "Beer Arch" is a retro-style food and drink event that utilizes the brick arch of the old Manseibashi Bridge. Held as a pre-opening event for a new commercial facility, it will sell beer and snacks and also feature an exhibition on the history of the surrounding area.

The company is currently developing a commercial facility inside the arch under the Manseibashi Viaduct, integrating it with the remains of the old Manseibashi Station. The facility will allow visitors to walk around the old platform via the remains of the two old station building stairs that remain on the viaduct. The old platform will feature an observation cafe and outdoor decks on both sides, with trains on the Chuo Line passing by. The public open space will feature an exhibit of the old Manseibashi Station's brick foundations and terminal-style benches made of brick. A deck will be installed on the Kanda River side to improve water accessibility. An open space will also be established as a hub of communication and communication, connecting the neighboring areas of Akihabara, Kanda-Sudacho, and Awajicho across the Kanda River.
The development concept is the "Manseibashi Station Salon." Like the salons frequented by cultural figures and celebrities during the Meiji and Taisho periods, when the Manseibashi area flourished as a shopping district, the aim is to create a place where culture and information can gather and continue to be disseminated. Based on the merchandising concept of "The Breath of a New Japan," the area will feature restaurants, beverages, and retail outlets themed around Japanese pride, lifestyles, and the charms of each region. It is scheduled to open this summer.
The area around the former Manseibashi Station flourished during the Edo period, centered around a plaza called "Sujigai-mitsuke." During the Meiji period, Manseibashi Station opened as a terminal on the Chuo Line. A bustling shopping district comparable to Ginza developed, beloved by cultural figures and celebrities, and even boasting a beer hall. The station was closed in 1943, but the Transportation Museum, which opened adjacent to the station in 1936, continued to attract many visitors until it closed in 2006. Redevelopment is currently underway, and in January of this year, the "JR Kanda Manseibashi Building" was completed, which houses a Tokyo-certified nursery school, a conference room with lounge functions, and more.
