A sculptural art piece that combines the beauty of nature with man-made objects. Experience the world of Sho Toyama at an exhibition at IDÉE Jiyugaoka.

Event Date:2021.05.21-06.21
May 22, 2021
Interior design brand IDEE will be holding an exhibition of works by artist Sho Toyama, whose work is based on spatial design, at the IDEE Shop Jiyugaoka store from May 21st to June 21st, 2021.

Sho Toyama, who works on store design, venue configuration for events such as exhibitions, and display design based on spatial design, calls his own art practice Atelier Matic and creates works mainly using acrylic and marble.

The sculptural beauty created by nature, such as marble and plants, and the patterns and strata that Toyama creates himself in pursuit of that sculptural beauty. This exhibition will feature and sell individually handcrafted flower vases, objects boldly made with marble, and sculptural art pieces that experimentally combine materials. Experience the world of Atelier matic/Sho Toyama, who incorporates two opposing elements, nature and the artificial, into his works to bring out new expressions.

acryl
Flowers and a moment trapped inside acrylic. The acrylic inclusion series was born from Toyama's love of antique markets, his desire to collect old items, and his love of transparent materials. These art pieces capture a moment as if frozen in time, and unimaginable chemical reactions become part of the work. The shadows they cast when light passes through them are also beautiful objects.

marble
This is a series in which I have sublimated marble, which I have been attracted to as it pairs well with acrylic, into artworks. Rather than a clean surface like a laid-out tile, I have taken advantage of the roughness, patterns developed over time, and strength to create my works by adding a little extra effort.

MINE ORE
This vase is the result of an attempt to "create one's own marble designs and patterns." "MINE" means mine, and "ORE" means ore. This item was born from the artist's love of stone, as he sought to express the artist's own geological layers and patterns. It received high praise at the "1000 vases" exhibition held in Paris in September 2020.
