From May 14th to June 15th, 2021, IDEE Gallery, located inside IDEE TOKYO (Gransta Tokyo B1F, Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo), will be holding "small plants," an exhibition of works by Morrison Kobayashi, who creates sculptures primarily out of iron and other metals.

"While I was thinking about how to express the vitality and innate beauty of plants, I decided I wanted to try expressing the process of a plant decaying."
In order to express vitality, Morrison Kobayashi deliberately chose iron as a material to depict the process of plants decaying, and he uses iron to rust the wood to realistically depict plants with delicate expressiveness. The works, created by cutting and rusting steel plates with tin snips, are so beautiful they are hard to believe are made from metal.

This exhibition will feature approximately 40 metal sculptures depicting plants encountered by Morrison Kobayashi in the mountains. We hope you will enjoy the beautiful world of botanical sculptures.

"Small Plants"
As you ascend from the foot of the mountain to the 3,000-meter ridge, the vegetation gradually changes.
The small plants you discover along the way serve as guideposts to the summit.
This exhibition will document a journey through the mountains to encounter these tiny signposts.
We will also be showcasing some of the works exhibited at the 24th Taro Okamoto Award for Contemporary Art, held this spring.
