IKEA Japan, the Japanese subsidiary of IKEA, a home furnishing company founded in Sweden with a vision of "creating a better everyday life for the many people," will open IKEA Shinjuku on May 1, 2021, with measures in place to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

"IKEA is continuing its expansion into cities and is thrilled to finally open our third city store in Tokyo in vibrant Shinjuku. Now, home is more important than ever, and we want to provide affordable solutions to the challenges of life at home. IKEA Shinjuku offers a wide selection of home furnishing products made from sustainably sourced materials and plant-based foods that are kind to both people and the planet. We look forward to welcoming you," said Helen von Reiss, President and Chief Sustainability Officer.

At IKEA Shinjuku, you can take home approximately 1,200 of the approximately 1,600 pieces of furniture and miscellaneous goods on display. Each floor is divided into room categories (living room, bedroom, etc.), and you can find the accessories you need along with the furniture. We have also incorporated many new initiatives, such as increasing the areas showcasing coordinated products to give customers a sense of the season. We have also set up checkout areas on each floor, making it easier for customers to search for and purchase furniture.

Features of IKEA Shinjuku
・ Room sets that reflect Shinjuku's culture, which embodies diversity, and express diverse lifestyles
IKEA Shinjuku has prepared six room sets based on the concept of a room where anyone can be themselves. IKEA respects a variety of values and lifestyles. With room sets that express a variety of personas, we provide inspiration for a wider range of customers to live more comfortably and in their own way. The room sets also suggest ideas for solving the small spaces and storage issues of urban housing, as well as sustainable living.

・ Circular Shop, giving IKEA products a second life
In February of this year, Circular Hub, a space that gives furniture a second life and provides customers with ideas for sustainable living, opened at IKEA Kohoku. A city-shop-sized Circular Shop corner will be opened on the first floor of IKEA Shinjuku. With the aim of creating a circular society, new second-hand items that were generated during the store's opening preparations, as well as display items that are no longer in use due to product replacement, will be sold at outlet prices.

・ Japan's first! Enjoy deli meals by weight at "Swedish Bite"
"Swedish Bite," the first deli meal by weight at IKEA Japan, will be launched at IKEA Shinjuku. Enjoy Scandinavian flavors in a casual deli style (takeout only). In addition to the familiar plant balls and meatballs, the bulk menu also includes shrimp potato salad with dill mayo. Plant-based lasagna and bakery items are also available for purchase. IKEA is committed to reducing food waste, and as part of this initiative, Swedish Bite will introduce a food waste monitoring tool. (The service is also scheduled to be introduced at the Swedish Restaurant in IKEA Shibuya at the same time.) The Swedish Bites area is scheduled to open on May 17th.
