Turn trendy denim into nails! Do your own nails with Paul & Joe polish [Today's item]

Jul 9, 2015

Incorporate this summer's key fashion trend keyword, "denim," into your nails. Nail artist JUNKO shares her tips for easy and stylish do-it-yourself nail designs. Today's nail art uses PAUL & JOE nail polish to recreate the texture of denim. The colors JUNKO chose for this nail art are primarily denim-inspired, like #14 "Blue Jeans" and #15 "Indigo Blues." "Denim-inspired nail art is unique to this season. I'm impressed with the color ideas unique to fashion brands. #15 has a bold color, while #14 is transparent, making it perfect for layering. I took advantage of the differences in color and texture to create a denim patchwork look," says JUNKO. One particularly noteworthy technique involves layering #14 over #25 "Disco," a silver glitter shade, to create a faded, distressed look. Her nail art suggestions, which carefully consider the characteristics of each nail polish, are truly impressive!
■Items Used
Nail Polishes 13, 14, 15, 25, Matte Top Coat 1,600 yen each
■How to
(1) Create a polish seal (*) using 13 and 15.
(2) For your hand, apply 13 to the first 2/3 of your ring finger from the tip, then apply 15 and 25 to the remaining 1/3 from the base and all fingers except your ring finger.
(3) Use 14 to remove the glitter from 25. With the tip of the brush squeezed lightly, apply it randomly, leaving some glitter in places, rather than all over.
(4) Once 14 has dried, apply the matte top coat to all but the tip 2/3 of your ring finger.
(5) Before (4) dries, cut the nail polish made in (1) into squares and stick them down in a patchwork style.
(6) For the feet, paint the index and middle fingers with 14 and the rest with 15.
(7) Finish using a matte top coat. Paint the index and little fingers entirely, and the rest in sections to leave a glossy finish.

*How to make polish stickers
...All you need is a clear file. Use the clear file as a backing and draw squares with the polish you want to make stickers from. We recommend applying 2-3 coats. Once dry, you can peel it off from the clear file like a film. Cut it into the shape you like and use it like a sticker. When you are applying the stickers, if the color underneath has dried, use the base coat as adhesive.
